Hallo an alle Moderatoren,

ich bin neu hier im Forum und habe auch gleich eine erste Frage.

Mit dem unteren Text habe ich drei verschiedene Fragen beantwortet, aber etwas Schwierigkeiten mit dem Ausdruck.
Außerdem: Wenn ich aus einem Text zitieren will, wie markiere ich das im Englischen richtig? Wie sehen die Anführungszeichen aus (‚word’. `word`)?

Es wäre schön, wenn Ihr mir weiterhelfen könntet.

The old tree is described as “poor and thin”, “sad, bent head”, “tired branches”, “a few dried leaves: they were like thin hair”.
The protagonist had often seen Midge stand like that: “Tired and unhappy, with her head bent.
And both, the tree and Midge, want to say that they are in this condition it is the fault of the protagonist.
So the old tree represents Midge, her look and her character.
The young tree stand “straight and strong”, “the branches were lifted to the sky”. So it also represents the young pretty girl. She was “happy, pretty, smiling”. In my opinion the protagonist also realizes his new situation by this tree, his new freedom.
Every tree is the opposite of the other.

I think both were blame on this unhappy marriage between them.
Ihre Rolle dabei kommt aber mehr zum tragen.
They were two different people with absolutely different views and no common characteristics.
Their childlessness verschlimmert die Situation noch zusätzlich.
Midge works all day, all year, to forget her discontent. Nothing seems to please her. She always refuses help and was nevertheless darüber beleidigt. But she not dare to change this situation.
Her husband offered her his help by the work. But he had not really done something to clear the situation.
By her constantly refusal haben sie sich completely auseinandergelebt.

The end of the story describes the final revenge of the death wife on the protagonist.
Midge, the torn stump, der seelisch verstümmelt, begraben und vergessen unter dem Schnee liegt, ergreift ihren völlig entrückten Mann und holds on him so long in ice cold, darkness and snow, until he dies to death weakened.
This shows the coldness which he felt last for his woman, but also her ice-cold revenge.
The hit branch over his mouth still takes the last word from him.
